WHO: The Trashy Artisan Cooperative was formed in 2016 on the Sunshine Coast Queensland. We are a not-for-profit social enterprise that is governed by a volunteer board of seven members.

ABN:41946057470 and QC0347

WHAT: We collect industrial and commercial discards destined for landfill and distribute to schools, artists, makers and the community. We operate a makers space and tool library open to the public. We run affordable workshops. We are creating a community hub for individuals to learn, share and support each other in creative endeavours.

WHERE: Currently operating from a garage and shipping container in Peregian Beach – we are desperate for a permanent location. If you can help, contact lucy@thetrashyartisan.com.au

HOW: You can get involved by becoming a volunteer ‘Trashie’. Be kept up to date with events, incoming discards, and access to the maker space. Or perhaps you want to start your own business using our discards? Join us and we can help you with equipment, space, mentoring or sales and distribution of value added upcycled products.

So the breakdown is; we have five primary activities:

Provide a service to commercial and industrial businesses on the Sunshine Coast and beyond by collecting discards that would otherwise become landfill. These would be sorted and sold onto educational institutions, artists and the general public for use. (Modelled on and mentored by Reverse Garbage Qld.)

Run variety of makers’ workshops for educational institutions and the general public. These will be led by members of the Cooperative and guest artists and makers from the community.

A user friendly creative space with a selection of equipment available to hire on site. Equipment will include 3D printers, sewing machines, soldering irons, wood and metal working tools. (Modelled on and Mentored by State Library – The Edge – Fabrication Lab)

Develop a community incubator group that focuses on “manual arts” as opposed to internet based start ups. We will connect mentors with budding entrepreneurs. We will also offer a space to sell value added products. (Partnered with Noosa Chamber of Commerce)

We have an established affiliation  with a registered training provider to run non accredited and accredited training at the Maker Space,  Upcycling Centre if required.

Our vision is: To be the most innovative, environmentally proactive, useful and welcoming community hub on the Sunshine Coast.
